The Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6 RC is a highly compatible, in-place update to the Microsoft .NET Framework 4, .NET Framework 4.5, .NET Framework 4.5.1 and .NET Framework 4.5.2. The offline package can be used in situations where the web installer cannot be used due to lack of internet connectivity.

This version of the .NET Framework runs side-by-side with the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and earlier versions, but performs an in-place update for the .NET Framework 4, .NET Framework 4.5, .NET Framework 4.5.1 and .NET Framework 4.5.2.

Microsoft .NET Framework (dibaca Microsoft dot Net Framework) atau lebih dikenal dengan singkatan dot net (tidak berhubungan dengan domain .net) merupakan sebuah perangkat lunak kerangka kerja yang berjalan utamanya pada sistem operasi Microsoft Windows, saat ini .NET Framework umumnya telah terintegrasi dalam distribusi standar Windows (mulai dari Windows Server 2003 dan versi-versi Windows yang lebih baru). Kerangka kerja ini menyediakan sejumlah besar pustaka pemrograman komputer dan mendukung beberapa bahasa pemrograman serta interoperabilitas yang baik sehingga memungkinkan bahasa-bahasa tersebut berfungsi satu dengan lain dalam pengembangan sistem. Nah, sekarang agan-agan sudah tahu apa itu .NET framework. Aplikasi ini adalah salah satu aplikasi yang paling penting diinstallkan pada pengguna aplikasi terbaru saat ini, seperti game terbaru (spt; PES, dll), dan beberapa aplikasi besar lainnya. .NET framework terdisi dari puluhan bahasa pemograman yang berbeda, jadi tidak heran kalau banyak aplikasi yang menggunakan bahasa C++ dan bahasa BASIC menggunakan .NET framework yang sama, itu dikarenakan bahwa .NET framework tidak terpaku pada satu bahasa pemograman saja, melainkan memfokuskan pada seluruh bahasa pemograman yang dikenal saat ini dan memang merupakan bahasa buatan microsoft itu sendiri (seperti bahasa C#, J#, J++, BASIC, C++, dll.).
